hey guys today I'm going to take you
with me to one of the American stores to
upgrade your vocabulary even if you
think you know all these words you could
check your knowledge by watching this
video ready cool let's take a little
tour of the store
so the first thing we usually do when we
enter the store is grab one of these
things
they come in really handy when you're
shopping imagine you're in a store with
your American friend and you want to ask
them to get one of these so what do you
say what do we call it
yes that's right it's a shopping cart a
fun fact and Great Britain Australia and
New Zealand they call it a trolley and
you might also hear the word buggy in
addition to shopping card in southern US
and Canada and shockingly this is not
the fullest but these are the most
commonly used ones when we go through
the store we go through departments the
specific sections or areas of a store
that sell particular types of products
they can also be referred to as sections
there are a lot of different departments
in the store among which might be the
daily Department clothing department
household goods or seasonal items and so
on this is for example the produce
department or the produce section
so if you lost your American friend in
the store and they text you and ask you
where are you you can say I'm in the XYZ
section and these are called aisles
excuse me where can I find the beans
there in aisle 10
if there's something you need from way
up there but you can't reach it how do
you ask someone for help for instance
you could say to a staff member or
someone tall excuse me can you help me
get the pack of cereal from the top
shelf
I have been in this situation countless
times because of my height
so these are called shelves where
products are placed for display or
storage and here we have another good
word display it's the arrangement of
products in an attractive manner to
catch customers attention each
individual product displayed on the
Shelf we can call an item
do you know what these are called
let's imagine there's an item you need
to get and this thing is nowhere to be
found
you go looking for an assistant to ask
them about it so what do you say
that's right you would say excuse me
there's no price tag for this item so
this is a price tag
let's move on sections like these are
called clearance
it's a section in a store where products
are heavily discounted to clear out
inventory do you like pasta by the way
let's say that you had a dinner at your
friends last night and you wanted to
know what sauce they used for the pasta
and let's say they told you that it was
marinara sauce
but there are different kinds of
marinara
so you would need to ask about the brand
name to be able to get that specific one
these are the brand names
this is a checkout
it's the area where you pay for your
purchases with the help of the cashier
but I for instance very rarely go to a
checkout I prefer a self-checkout
this is where customers can complete
their own transactions do you know what
this action is called
let's say you did this twice and now you
need to call an assistant and describe
your problem so that they can delete
another item
so what do you say
you would say something like hi excuse
me
I scanned this twice
and they usually reply right away with
no worries and delete the second item on
the list thank you so much
so this is called scanning an item
and this is a receipt
but let's go over a couple of more
essential vocabulary words associated
with stores in every store you will find
products on sale or discounted I'm
pretty sure we all know what these words
mean but do you know what the difference
is between them if you don't no worries
I'll tell you so discounts show you a
certain percentage of the original price
and when the product is on sale the
price tag will indicate the exact new
price
also if you didn't like the item you
purchased or the quality wasn't what you
had expected or it didn't fit you can
return or exchange it to return
something means to bring an item back
and get a refund meaning you get your
money back and to exchange something
means to give one item back and get
another one instead of that one
okay guys that's it for this video if
you have any questions let me know in
the comments and I really hope that you
enjoyed this video and I'll see you in
the next one bye
